Cookie Monster stole the cookies

The curious case of the Cookie Monster even crossed the Atlantic and hit the news in the United States. The golden cookie from the facade of the Bahlsen confectionary company was stolen in 2013. Everyone in Germany was mystified as to who the thief might be. Following a string of blackmail letters, Cookie Monster E-fit pictures and other clues, the cookie thief and Bahlsen finally agreed on a charitable donation for sick children demanded by the Cookie Monster for returning the golden cookie. There is no official confirmation that Bahlsen had actually staged the theft of the cookie. But no matter whether it was or wasn’t a planned PR gag – Bahlsen received an immense amount of media coverage as a result.
